NHC HealthCare, Bluffton offers the best in inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services in a state-of-the-art setting. Our professional staff is focused on assisting your loved one to reach their highest level of independence, in most cases a return to your home. NHC Rehab offers an interdisciplinary approach to therapy, allowing therapists to work together with all departments to provide care tailored to the specific needs of each individual. Our large gym features a variety of equipment and treatment areas, including a kitchen, full bathroom with tub, and a private room. Patients may also participate in a home evaluation prior to leaving our center to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Physical Therapy
Physical therapy begins with an evaluation to assess the individual’s level of mobility, strength, pain, and function. An individual treatment protocol and goals for the desired outcome are set up. Treatment can include the use of various modalities (ultrasound, electrical stimulation, diathermy, and strengthening equipment), manual therapy, and balance and postural training. A specific home exercise program is designed for the patient to maintain their new level of strength, mobility, and function.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy offers our patients the chance to reach their highest potential toward an independent lifestyle. Occupational therapists focus on increasing independence in feeding, bathing, dressing, and other meaningful activities of daily living. A treatment plan is established based on each individual’s needs, and treatment can include ADL training, adaptive equipment education, seating and positioning assessments, and various modalities. Patients have the opportunity to practice daily routines they perform at home including meal preparation, managing finances, and community outings.
Speech Therapy
Speech Therapy is offered to our patients that may have difficulties with speech, language, communication, or swallowing that prevents them from pursuing an active lifestyle. NHC Rehab offers VitalStim through a Certified Speech Language Pathologist. VitalStim is a safe and effective treatment for patients with swallowing difficulty through a noninvasive, external stimulation of muscles used for swallowing. Our speech therapists also work with patients that have difficulties with cognition, including memory, attention, problem-solving, thought organization, reasoning and judgment, and new learning. They work closely with our Memory Care Unit to develop individualized programs that allows our patients to function at their highest level.
Outpatient Therapy Services
The rehab department at NHC Bluffton also offers outpatient services to those who are not admitted to the facility. Physical, occupational and speech therapy are offered on an outpatient basis. Our outpatient therapy program provides therapy for recovery from diagnosis such as joint replacement and reconstruction, lower back and neck pain and spinal surgery, neurological and neuromuscular disorders, such as strokes, MS, ALS, Parkinson's Disease, Huntington's Disease, cognitive deficits, or swallowing disorders. Each service caters to the individualized needs of the patient. A personalized treatment plan will be develop in order to guide patients in recovery to their highest level of function. The referring physician is a key part of our team, and communication is maintained through regular progress summaries. Outpatient therapy is offered to individuals in the community as well as inpatients who are discharged home.
